10 Tools that Helped Me on My Healing Journey

Everyone’s journey looks different, but here’s a glimpse into my healing journey and 10 things that helped me along the way. ❤️

  1. Day One Journal App: I downloaded the Day One Journal app in June, 2019 when I was experiencing a lot of emotional pain in my relationships with others. I had no clue this app would be the key to surviving the next 3 and a half years, and would be the outlet I needed to release my pain and transform my life. At first, I just wrote down my experiences and expressed my emotions, but eventually I began doing shadow work, gratitude journaling, and even manifesting using this app. It’s totally accessible and what I love about it is it’s available on iOS, iPadOS and macOS.
  2. TikTok: 2020 was a really rough year, pretty much for everyone. For me, it wasn’t just about the pandemic. My entire life was chaotic and stressful. To cope, I would scroll on TikTok, searching for entertaining content. Over time, the videos became more and more informative. This is how I learned more about mental health, reparenting, emotional regulation, inner child healing, trauma, CPTSD, nervous system regulation, and so much more. I also saw people like me posting videos and loving themselves regardless of what others had to say. It was inspiring, and I began to slowly work on my own self-worth.
  3. Astrology and the TimePassages App: I’ve had an interest in Astrology for a long time, but this app allowed me to read about all my placements and aspects, as well as understand how transits were impacting my daily life. I downloaded TimePassages on November 20, 2020, and it has played a huge part in my healing journey ever since. Plus it’s an Astrology app that’s 100% accessible with VoiceOver! That’s extremely rare! Another Astrology based app I found helpful was The Pattern. Unfortunately, accessibility isn’t great, and you can’t actually learn Astrology with it, so I no longer recommend it. It did give me some insight into some of my behaviors, which was helpful.
  4. The Clubhouse App: This is another app I no longer use, but in early 2021, I used Clubhouse every day. I was able to join disability-related clubs and rooms, and being a part of a community like this was good for my soul. Additionally, I was able to learn about all kinds of interesting topics. I attended rooms on mental health and self love; I even joined a True Love Summit, which allowed me to learn valuable information for my healing journey
  5. The Human Design System: Human Design shows you how you are meant to operate in the world. It shows where you pick up conditioning from your environment, and how you can live in flow instead of meeting so much resistance. The system is very complex, revolving around an inaccessible chart that is confusing for any beginner to read. Luckily for me, I started learning about Human Design on Clubhouse, which is an audio only app. This was very helpful, because I could listen and take notes, and apply what I heard to my own chart later on. I gathered knowledge gradually over time, and I’m still learning. More and more creators seem to be making informative content about Human Design, so you can definitely learn a lot for free, just like I did. To get started, I recommend learning about your type, your profile, your inner authority, your strategy, and your not-self theme. The Not-Self theme will show you when you aren’t living in alignment and/or inner authority and strategy will allow you to make decisions that are aligned with your authentic self. You can get your free Human Design Chart on Jovian Archive.
  6. Reading Books: Apps I use for reading are Apple Books, Audible, BARD, and Kindle. At first, reading was a much needed escape from reality. I would get so lost in a series that I wouldn’t stop reading until I was done, forgetting about everything else for the entire time. It was wonderful. As my connection to myself and my spirituality deepened, I also began reading to learn more about different topics. The most transformative books I read were Becoming Supernatural and The Inner Work. These helped me immensely on my healing journey.
  7. Crystals: In 2021, I began my crystal collection. These crystals were very helpful to me when I would leave home, allowing me to finally begin to create energetic boundaries I’d never had before. I’ve always been very sensitive to the energy of others, causing anxiety, emotional and nervous system dysregulation, and stomach issues. My crystals allowed me to protect myself from the intensity of everyone else’s emotions and stay grounded in my own energy. They have been life changing, and now I’m able to easily differentiate between my energy and the energy of others.
  8. Energy Work, specifically Reiki: In 2021, I took an Energy Study course, because it was cheaper and less intimidating than the Reiki course I actually wanted to take. In the first lesson, we did a grounding meditation, and I noticed I could feel the energy moving through my body. I knew then that this was something I wanted to study more. In March of 2022, I began learning Reiki, and I was officially certified as a Reiki Master on May 7, 2022. During the certification process, I had to practice Reiki on myself, others, and perform distance sessions. The process of doing Reiki on myself brought up issues I needed to address. Reiki is the reason I was finally able to go to the doctor, why I changed my diet, and why I was finally able to start losing weight. I am becoming a completely different person, and Reiki continues to play a major role in my transformation.
  9. Hidrate Spark Smart Water Bottle and App: I used to love Mountain Dew. It was my drink of choice every day for many years. By 2021, I had reduced my soda consumption significantly. I was finding, however, that I wasn’t drinking enough water. To combat this issue, I got the Hidrate Spark Pro water bottle, and began tracking my water intake. The glow reminders and push notifications from this bottle and app made it possible for me to start drinking a gallon of water every day. The fun trophies also provided some additional motivation. This has been very helpful on my healing journey, because being hydrated means I feel better, and working with energy is also easier. This was the first step I took on my health journey, and I believe it’s a great place for everyone to start.
  10. Apple Watch and Apple Fitness Plus: I got my first Apple Watch in 2016, but I rarely wore it. Wearing a watch felt pointless when I always had my phone with me anyway. Occasionally, I would start working on my fitness, but it never stuck. Now, I know the reason for this is that my mental health wasn’t where it needed to be for this change to stick. I was working out because I felt like I had to, not because I felt like I deserved to take care of myself by moving more. Anyway, the Apple Watch and the Health app allowed me to see my activity level and slowly increase it over time. It has been great to see the amount of steps I take per day, my exercise minutes, and my active calories going up, while my respiratory rate and resting heart rate go down. This has been the greatest motivation, along with finally feeling like I deserve to be here and feel good in my body. Additionally, the Apple Fitness Plus service has been a huge help for me. Everything is accessible with VoiceOver, and all workouts have audio hints, so you can follow along without seeing the screen! It’s great! I highly recommend Apple Fitness Plus to everyone, especially those who have an Apple Watch.

If you’ve read this post, thank you. If you’re also on a healing journey, know that I am cheering you on! It can be so painful and isolating, but it’s totally worth it! You can do it, and you’re worth it! ❤️
